Welcome to Typefabric, the website of textile artist Rhiannon Robinson. Inspired by language, literature and landscape, and fascinated by typography, colour, pattern and structure, Rhiannon uses a combination of machine and hand embroidery with print techniques, to explore how type and lettering can be translated into textile media.
Internet is based on a quotation taken from computer scientist James H. Clark. “The internet is not just one thing, it’s a collection of things – of numerous communications networks that all speak the same digital language.” Each of the nine joined panels that make up the piece features a multi- layered image created through cyanotype printing and rust dyeing onto fabric. The piece was then densely embroidered with a grid and symbols taken from computer coding languages, the gold thread appearing to glow like an LED screen with changes in the angle of view.
